Notching in furniture refers to the process of cutting out a small, usually V-shaped or U-shaped, indentation or groove in a wooden piece. This is done to fit and join two pieces of wood together, typically at right angles, to provide stability and to make the joints stronger. Notching can also be used for decorative purposes to enhance the design of the furniture. Simple form of decoration found in primitive woodwork.
