What is the meaning of the furniture term Hasp?

In the context of furniture, a hasp refers to a metal fastening device typically used to secure doors or lids in place. It consists of a hinged metal strap or plate, which is attached to the surface of the furniture, and a loop or clasp that is affixed to the door or lid. By closing the door or lid and threading a padlock or another type of locking mechanism through the loop, the hasp provides an additional level of security, preventing unauthorized access or tampering.
